On May 24, 2011, Jackson Hewitt and its subsidiaries (the "Debtors") filed voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware (the “Court”). The Company has also agreed with 100% of its lenders, under its existing credit facility, on a prepackaged plan of reorganization that contains the terms of the balance sheet restructuring and filed this plan together with the petitions. Jackson Hewitt is using this legal process to reduce debt, obtain court approval of its plan and emerge quickly as a much more viable, financially healthy company.

During this reorganization period:

  • Jackson Hewitt expects to continue to operate without interruption. It will be business as usual throughout this process.

  • Jackson Hewitt store locations are open nationwide. We are assisting clients with their tax questions and return preparation and customer service remains our #1 priority. We look forward to assisting clients now and for many years to come.

  • Jackson Hewitt appreciates the continued support of its business partners, including its landlords and vendors. We value these relationships and look forward to continuing to work together during this period of transition.

On May 24, 2011, the Debtors filed the Joint Prepackaged Plan of Reorganization of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. and Subsidiaries (the "Plan") and the accompanying Disclosure Statement (the "Disclosure Statement"). On August 5, 2011, the Debtors filed their Amended Joint Prepackaged Plan of Reorganization (the "Amended Plan"). On August 8, 2011, an Order was entered confirming the Debtors’ Amended Plan. On August 16, 2011, the plan was deemed effective. Copies of the Plan, Disclosure Statement, and related documents can be viewed by clicking on the appropriate tab on the left side of this page.

On January 18, 2012, the Court entered an order (the “Bar Date Order”) establishing February 26, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. (prevailing Eastern Time) (the “Bar Date”), as the last date and time for each person or entity to file a proof of claim (“Proof of Claim”) based on any prepetition general unsecured claim against any of the Debtors. The Bar Date Order, the Bar Date and the procedures set forth in the Bar Date Order for filing of Proofs of Claim apply to certain prepetition general unsecured claims against the Debtors that arose prior to May 24, 2011, the date on which each of the Debtors commenced cases (the “Petition Date”) under chapter 11 of title 11 of the United States Code. The claims administration process is being handled by the Jackson Hewitt Post Effective Date Trustee. Accordingly, Proofs of Claim and inquiries related to the filing of Proofs of Claim must be directed to the following:
